I believe that artists get their best work when they can relate to their subject. A landscape painter who truly is inspired by nature will create a more beautiful painting than the guy who has had lesson upon lesson but doesn’t see and feel the beauty of the place. A musician who sings or plays a song that he wrote about his own lost love will sing it and play it with more passion than another musician that doesn’t understand the depths of the pain ever could. I believe it’s a HUGE part of being an artist. If the artist isn’t feelin’ it, no one else will either. I am gaining more and more of an understanding of this concept, and it’s making me a better photographer.

I don’t have the best memory- especially when it comes to my early childhood. I do however, remember how much I loved (LOVED) being with my mama. I wanted to be just like her. Beautiful and smart and strong. It was interesting to find myself reflecting on my life as the daughter, instead of the parent while I was shooting these two. This young girl feels JUST like I did and still do. Such a sweet love. Her mama captivates her, and it’s beautiful. Enjoy.

These are so sweet and beautiful. They really capture the moments we have together. Those laughs, those whispers, and those smiles that I often feel & see but no one is ever around to capture and you did so wonderfully. Thank You!
