Family LOVE | las vegas portrait photographer | urban vision studios

My goodness I loved this session. It was partly because of great light and springtime- but mostly because of the 5 humans below.

I had a rough day yesterday. Without me getting too far into it, do some math: someone had really let me down + running late because of it + getting pulled over and ticketed + arriving at my shoot late to find out that I had no memory cards for my camera. All of that = frazzled, (feeling somewhat inadequate) photographer-ME. This family graciously forgave my lateness and the fact that I had to then again leave after arriving to hurry and purchase a memory card. (Small miracle that I didn’t get another ticket while doing so!)
Because of my mishaps, we (I) prayed that the rangers would not kick us out of the now-closed park (THEY DIDN’T!) and shot an extra long mini session to hopefully make up for it.
Recently, with so much of our time and energy being put into Weddings by Scott and Dana, I have been feeling like after our move to CA, that we might not be incorporating Family Portraits into our scope of work. At some point yesterday, I realized this is an impossibility. Not every family session goes easily. They are challenging. But the family sessions FEED me. Seeing this family, and knowing, that like my family, they may not have it all together, even though it seems like they probably do….. is therapy. To see this group of 5 individuals laugh together in the midst of this crazy world and all that it brings- and to see them love on each other in a way that is unique to their family heals me. I, like many moms, have doubts about the job I have done as a mother. I carry guilt. But you know what? FAMILY isn’t easy. And parents aren’t perfect. We all are just doing the best that we can.

This family warmed my heart. I’m sure they don’t know this, and I hope I haven’t made this post too much about me- but I wanted needed to share.

Enough words. Here are my favorites.

You made me cry, Dana. You are so right! Family and parenting is so overwhelming! Portraits like these make us remember how important it is to nourish our relationships and just how important and how un-important all the other “STUFF” is. These are beautiful! I am sure they will cherish them forever! Don’t go to California! Stay! I want us to work together!

College Graduation Portraits | Las Vegas Photographer | urban vision studios

Kids keep growing up. I can’t believe it’s been 4 years since I photographed Kelly’s senior portraits back in 2010. Most kids are taking longer than 4 years to graduate from college, am I right? Well Kelly has been such a dedicated student- and it’s all about to pay off. Kelly is finishing up, and is about to embark on a new phase of life. I think there are 4 events that truly feel like a rite of passage into adulthood. High school graduation, college graduation, marriage, and becoming a parent. Kelly will be checking off the second of these 4 great life-changing moments.
Congrats to you, Kelly! I enjoyed hearing stories of your adventures and your set-backs. Your company is SO enjoyable and I have respect for your insight and view on life. <3
Now go get ‘em.

Class of 2015 | Las Vegas Senior Portraits | urban vision studios

This girl was a dream to shoot. Just putting that out there first thing.  She was fun and sweet and so very pretty, yet humble as can be.
Rylee’s mom came along on the shoot. I always enjoy watching mothers with their daughters- perhaps because I know first-hand that it isn’t always and easy relationship. I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed this senior girl and the way she and her mother interacted with each other. When I met them (which was the first time I had met either of them in person), they drove in their car behind me to our location. I would peer in my rear view mirror at them to make sure that I wasn’t leaving them behind- and numerous times I saw them laughing and conversing. You can just tell that they genuinely enjoy being with each other. They are an adorable pair and I was glad to be spending the evening with them.
Spending the evening together resulted in some LOVELY images. I tell you my camera and I would have never stopped if the sun hadn’t gone down. You’ll see how much fun we had…..

LOVE this family. Edgar and Mardia are just good people. Genuinely fun, loving and generous, with big hearts for serving God. They both are in ministry for Central Christian Church, which is how I met them. They had JUST moved here from Mexico when their younger daughter Miley was born and I got to shoot their newborn session, and loved them instantly. In addition to their work with Central, most recenly, Edgar has released a book that addresses the whys of Christianity, entitled Inconforme. You can purchase that HERE.
I really enjoy my time with this family each time we shoot. Their girls are fun and silly and SO very cute. Here are some favorite shots from our time together.

Abigail is ONE | Bay Area Family Portraits | urban vision studios

Be prepared for cuteness overload. I think these are two of the cutest kids on the planet. They are both just angelic, and every bit as wonderful as I dreamed my niece and nephew would be. Their smiles, their giggles, and most especially their hugs warm my heart like nothing else. And to hear Josiah call me “Tia Dana”, in his sweet little voice melts me.
Soon- I will live much closer and get to experience more of these moments. <3 Until now, I will have to look at these pictures. Jake and Laura, your little family is one of my very favorite things. <3 Happy Birthday Abby.

Their beauty and your talent of capturing that inward and outward beauty brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart as I praised God for his gracious gift of these children!
